Charita Dasappa has had an eye for creative expression ever since she was a child, drawing deeply from her artistically inclined father and his philosophical musings. Her childhood curiosity led her to pursue a degree in Mass Communication in India and, later, one in Graphic Design in America.
Dasappa fell in love with painting during her art history lessons –some of her favorite lessons – and gravitated towards the Impressionists and later, contemporary artists.
Her education in two different worlds led her to synthesize ancient understandings with a modern mode of thought. As evidenced in her work, this synthesis manifested in the most unusual concepts.
Dasappa’s work boldly mixes style, color, and symbolic imagery. In doing so, she elucidates the deeper meanings of life and the universe as she sees it in her mind’s eye.
My art self creates while I find the deep and elusive meaning behind the obvious. At times, a couple of unrelated words and images trigger an emotion so strong that it gives birth to a concept. It's the way I visualize this and give it a context which develops into intriguing paintings. My goal, ultimately, is to inspire the viewer to unearth the why's and the why nots!
